  • Speed : Capable of processing trillions of instructions per second
  • Storage : Highest storage capacity that can store complex and sophisticated applications.
     2.       Mainframes Computers
  • Physical Size : Partial room to a full room of equipment
  • Speed : Can process millions of instructions per second and handle a thousands of connected computers.
  • Storage : Larger storage capacity that can store data, instructions, and information for business applications.
     3.        Personal Computers ( Laptop, Desktop)
  • Physical Size  : Small computers that fits on a desk or fit on your lap.
  • Speed : Computer based on microprocessor designed for individuals and business, capable to provide computing power for home and office environment.
  • Storage : Storage capacity ranges from GB to TB that can store home and office software.
    4.       Mobile Devices
  • Physical Size : Very small communication devices.
  • Speed : A computer based on a microprocessor that contain built-in computing.
  • Storage : Storage capacity up to GB that can store mobile applications.
    5.       Embedded Computers
  • Physical Size : A tiny computer embedded into a product.
  • Speed : Tiny specialized microprocessor installed in smart appliances and automobiles.
  • Storage : Storage capacity normally in KB.

  • A network is a collection of computers and devices connected together via communications devices and transmission media allowing computers to share resources.
      Communications Devise
  • A communications devices is any type of hardware capable of transmitting data, instructions, and information between a sending devices and a receiving device.
  • Examples : (cable modem, wireless modem, network cards, hubs & switches.
      Transmission Media
  • Wireless or unguided transmission media : send signal through air or space.
  • Examples : Twisted-pair Cable, Coaxial Cable, Fiber-Optic Cable, Communication Satellite, Broadcast radio, Cellular Radio, Infrared, Microwaves, Bluetooth.)
      Network Architecture
  • The design of computers, devices and media in a network.
  • Types of network architecture : Peer-to-peer (p2p) and Client-server

  • The layout of the computers and devices in a communication network.
  • Examples : Star Network, Bus Network and Ring Network.
